'If you enjoy the likes of Kimber's Men, The Longest Johns, She Shanties,
and Fishermen's Friends then add this superb quartet to your list'
Graham Hobbs, Shire Folk
'Now here’s a crew I would sign on with for a rollick ‘round the Horn. In a heartbeat.'
David Francey, 3x JUNO Award / Canadian Folk Music Awards recipient
Pressgang Mutiny are Toronto's Shantymen, dedicated to traveling the globe to discover shanties and works songs and the people who sing them. A quartet of dynamic musicians and tall ship sailors, they have toured extensively across the East Coasts of Canada and the US and performed at festivals in the UK and Europe. Their music has been played on folk music radio programs on both sides of the pond and has been featured on CBC radio.
Dedicated to showcasing the full breadth of one of the world's first truly multicultural music, Pressgang Mutiny have collaborated with and learned from sea shanty singers from around the globe. They are currently producing a record and accompanying documentary film with traditional shanty singers and sailors from the Caribbean nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 2023, they'll return to Europe to perform at several festivals, while exploring and documenting shanty singing in Poland, the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Whether performing a rollicking set of shanties from around the world, leading educational workshops for new and experienced shanty audiences, or interviewing other artists as part of their ongoing podcast The Shanty Show, the lads of Pressgang Mutiny are guaranteed to entertain, educate, and delight.
Pressgang Mutiny are Richard Kott, James McKie, Tim Pyron, and Stefan Read.
'Their singing is perfectly suited to their material, combining the powerful drive needed for working
along with an enthusiasm for the task in hand which comes across in every syllable.'
